S. Hoellermann - Untitled / Pressure 12"
The first vinyl release contains the digital releases real001 and real003, both done by Stephan Hoellermann. From the press release::
Not so sure about the oft-cited claim that your girlfriend prefers 12 inches. After all, we're talking about 30.48 cm. You can use this new 12" as a benchmark. It's a solid 180g pressing, doesn't sag, and delivers accurate measurements.
The A-side features a track called 'Untitled', a title that is indicative of its arduous creation. Completed a long, long time ago, the track remains Stephan's most complex to this day, yet you can't tell that from listening to it – which was, ultimately, the whole point of the exercise.
The B-side features a track called 'Pressure', for which he ripped a worn-out Sample-CD found in a box at his parents' house. This was given to him 30 years ago. Back then, he only checked the CD briefly to sample the best kick drums, hi-hats, and claps, and then forgot about it, since he wanted to create beats from scratch. Scratched and rotten, this CD sparked a certain curiosity, so he tried to rip it again, which he managed to do in parts. Following an extremely brief jam session over an instrumental track that was already finished, the vocal version of 'Pressure' was completed.
5 Magazine described the result very aptly at the time:
The vocal mix features clips from an ancient sample CD — an artifact of the ’90s, you used to buy these things with titles like 1000 Jungle Drum Loops stuffed with royalty-free samples. The strange thing here is that it sounds oddly contemporary — a sound usually dubbed “ravey” roared back just before the pandemic and dominated much of underground dance music since. This is more clubby than that — you could imagine sending copies of this out to Billboard reporters and waiting by the fax for the feedback forms to roll in.
